Re-Zoning Near Davis Lake

City of Charlotte Rezoning Petitions Web Pages
How to File a Statement of Support, or Rebuttal, Regarding a Rezoning Request

  • Rezoning Petition 2007-101
Apartments at Southwest corner of Old Statesville Rd. and WT Harris Blvd.

    Full Application and Information
SUCCESS - hearing below is deferred!

    Background:
This petition is to rezone 22 acres at HWY115/Sunset Rd. and WT Harris with 240 rental apartments, a partial strip mall and multi offices and stores. These are hi rise multi story apartments.
Claire Fallon (President of Legacy in Davis Lake and the NorthEast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NEC)), DLCA Board member Tom Wolf, and Resident Rick Short (and perhaps others... ) attended a community meeting on Wed. 2/6 at 7:00PM at the University City United Methodist Church. The developer presented their build-out plan to the community. The community then could comments regarding the plan. Of concern to us is the likelihood that our community will become encircled by high density apartment complexes which brings additional traffic, stress to our schools and detracts from the family oriented nature of Davis Lake. Claire says that “there should be a protest from our community in the interest that we do not need more apt's here and our property vales are devaluated by low price point rentals. Our presence reinforces to the decision makers present that we would like new development in our area to reflect the quality of our existing community.
    Progress:
    • 2/6/2008 Several Residents attended Community meeting and expressed opposition to the current plans, since they do not support more inexpensive apartments, strip mall, offices and stores built in area.
    • Requested of builder to defer or revise with an ownership type of housing.
    • 2/11 - public hearing is deferred! no meeting on 2/18 as previously announced.
    • Claire Fallon received a letter from Walter Fields requesting to revisit the zoning change where we objected to the building of 25 rental apartments - multi offices and a large strip mall on Highway 115 [sunset road] and W. T. Harris Blvd. The objection by Davis Lake residents was at a community meeting on Feb 6th. The developer Singh and Associates wish to meet again on March 5th.at the University City YMCA – 7:00 p.m - in the conference room on the administration hallway. This is a revisit to and modification of their original plan. I urge you to attend since this has a great impact on how our community will develop in the future. If you have any further questions call me at 704-596-8288
Claire Green Fallon, President, NorthEast Coalition
